What is Gel burner and what is it for?
Gel burners are a new-concept flame feature. They are very stylish and very
versatile; can be used both indoor and outdoor for nice atmosphere, for
decoration or even for heat. They are a must in contemporary and traditional
homes or for outdoor events.
How safe are gel burners?
Our gel burners are completely safe when they are treated with the respect
that all naked flames deserve and when they are used in accordance with the
instructions supplied.
How do I light gel burner?
To light the gel burner simply apply a naked flame to the surface of the gel
in the container. A small blue flame, sometimes almost transparent, will
slowly spread across whole surface of the gel and then turn into yellow
within a few seconds. The flames will reach their maximum height after
several minutes when the reservoir has warmed up.
How do I extinguish the flame?
By putting the lid on it will go out within ten seconds – as simple as that.
But remember, you mustn’t relight the gel right after that when it is still
warm. The vapour of gel will make the flame flare up and can cause accident.
Can I refill fire gel immediately after the flame goes
out?
You can’t refill a hot gel container as the vapour will go to the air
without burning. Let it cool down for 2 minutes before refill.
What is Fire Gel made of?
Fire gel is a mixture of clean burning alcohols - Ethanol and Propanol,
gelling agents and flame brighteners. Through burning, it consumes oxygen
and releases water. Although it is not poisonous, unburned gel vapour
shouldn’t be sniffed.
How hot will the gel burner get?
Our gel burners will not get hot on sides or bottom, although the middle gel
container and areas around it will get very hot. The gel container is
insulated and there is a hole underneath the burner to allow heat to escape.
Normally they are safe to touch and kind to table surfaces, but still, try
not to touch or move them when they are burning or when the flames has just
gone out.
How high will the flames get?
The flame on our small size burners get 10-20cm high and medium and large
sizes get 25-40cm. Height of flames are also affected by wind as well.
Strong wind will make the flame lower and irregular.
Where can I use gel burners:
Gel burners can be used either indoor or outdoor.
For indoor use: care should be taken to ensure that the burners are placed
on a stable, solid surface where they are unlikely to be knocked over by
children, guests or pets. Remember that a strong draft will blow the flames
from side to side, so place gel burners far away from flammable material
like curtains, sofas etc.
For outdoors use: although gel burners can burn in breeze conditions, strong
wind should be avoided to reach the ideal effect of gel burner.
Will gel burner leave black on my ceiling or
set off my smoke alarm if used indoors?
The gel we supply is smokeless and odourless, therefore will not make your
ceiling black. This is a major advantage over most candles. Nevertheless if
the gel container is not clean, there will be some smoke given off at the
end of burning. In that case, you can put lid on to stop it, and replace or
wash the gel container when it is cold.
How much gel should I put each time?
The maximum height is about 0.5cm to the top edge of the gel container. You
can put less if you only need short burning time, in which case you need a
long match or lighter to reach the gel surface.
How long will the fire gel last?
Normally in our large burners, 1L fire gel will last 5-6 hours (appx. 3
fillings); in medium burners, 6-7 hours (appx. 4 fillings); and in mini
burners can last about 10 hours (over 10 fillings). The consumption of fire
gel also depends on conditions like temperature and wind.
